How to Get Your Skin Wedding Ready

On your wedding day, friends and family from all the stages of your life come together to celebrate with you. It is a day filled with love, friendship, happiness and moments to remember – many of which will be photographed! Below you will find an ideal timeline for making sure your skin is picture perfect.

1 Year Prior:

If you suffer from a medical skin condition like acne, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss or scarring – start early. The sooner you see a NYC dermatologist and come up with a treatment plan, the better your chance of having it under control for the big day.

This is also the best time frame for optimizing your regimen.  A dermatologist can help you determine your skin type, ensure that you are using the best products possible and discuss a plan for any cosmetic treatments you may benefit from.

6-9 Months Prior

This is the time to begin laser, facial resurfacing and body contouring treatments.  Most cosmetic procedures are best done in a series.  For example, laser hair removal requires approximately 6 monthly treatments.  Laser for sunspots, leg veins or broken blood vessels may take 2-3 monthly treatments. Acne scarring, skin texture and pores can be addressed with non-ablative resurfacing or microneedling.  After a series, it takes 3-6 months for the effects on collagen building to appear.  If you have unwanted fat pockets, these can be zapped and reduced before dress day with TruSculpt 3D.  TruSculpt 3D is a minimally invasive body sculpting treatment that can significantly reduce a double chin, bra fat, back fat, love handles, belly bulge and saddle bags in 1-2 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.  It also helps with skin tightening and cellulite reduction.  Best results are generally seen 12 weeks after treatment – so start early!

3-6 Months Prior

As the wedding approaches, finishing touches are in order.  A series of Laser Genesis treatments or chemical peels can help ensure skin is make-up ready with even tone and tight pores.  This would also be the time to consider fillers for tear troughs, cheek augmentation, lip enhancement, nasolabial folds or marionette lines.

1-2 Months Prior

If you are considering Botulinum Toxin (Botox or Dysport) to minimize forehead lines or crow’s feet, this is the ideal window.  Botulinum Toxin is strongest 2 weeks after injection and then gradually lightens up.  Six weeks means you will have time for a touch up if needed and that the result will be both smooth and natural.

1-2 days prior

Big pimples like to come out for big events.  To be safe, make sure you have an appointment locked in with your favorite derm for an emergency cortisone injection to bring it down quickly.
