Young, radiant, and healthy skin contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid (HA) – a hydrating substance naturally produced by the body. However, the natural aging process, sun exposure, and lifestyle factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. In effect, you lose volume and structure, resulting in unwanted wrinkles and folds that give you an aged appearance.

Composed of a biocompatible HA base, Juvederm Voluma® can be injected in small amounts to fill in the hollows and enhance facial contours, acting very much like the body’s naturally-occurring HA to instantly hydrate the affected areas. Juvederm Voluma will fill in and smooth out folds, adding fullness and definition to aging areas of the face.

At Spring Street Dermatology, we work to optimize the appearance of your skin through state-of-the-art cosmetic dermatology treatments, including cosmetic injectables. We only use the highest quality FDA-approved injectables in our SOHO and Uptown, NYC medical spas.

Our experienced and highly trained board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants perform these procedures themselves, helping you turn back the clock on aging and achieve beautiful, natural-looking results.

What is Juvederm Voluma?

Juvederm Voluma is an injectable HA filler used to correct age-related volume loss and augment the chin in adults over 21. It is FDA-approved for adding volume and contour to the cheek and midface areas that have started to sag or have a hollow appearance.

Its thicker gel texture gives the injectable unique lifting properties that can sculpt and contour the face, producing a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance that ensures you look as vibrant as you feel.

What does Juvederm Voluma treat?

Juvederm Voluma is most often used to treat a weak chin, an undefined or uneven jawline, and cheek hollows. It can also be used to restore volume to the temples.

The amount of filler required for each treatment depends on the amount of correction needed and the unique characteristics of your face. Our board-certified dermatologists will help you determine exactly how much product you’ll need to achieve your desired results.

Who is a candidate for a Juvederm Voluma treatment?

The best candidates for a Juvederm Voluma treatment are typically men and women who have lost volume and definition in the face, want to restore fullness, and enhance their facial contours to make them more youthful-looking. Juvederm Voluma is also a great anti-aging treatment for those who prefer a minimally invasive approach.

Candidates should be in good general health with a positive attitude and reasonable expectations for their results.

What to Expect During Your Voluma Treatment in New York City

Our team of board-certified dermatologists use a very fine needle or blunt-tipped microcannula to administer Juvederm Voluma into targeted treatment areas. Juvederm Voluma contains the anesthetic lidocaine to enhance your comfort throughout the procedure.

A topical numbing agent may also be used prior to filler injections. Most patients find the procedure to be quick and relatively comfortable. A treatment session at our medical spa can last approximately 5-30 minutes.

Benefits of Juvederm Voluma

Typically, patients who undergo a Juvederm Voluma treatment can achieve the following:

  • Plumper and more accentuated cheekbones
  • Smoother-looking appearance around the mouth and nose
  • Improvement in nasolabial folds, as the midface is lifted
  • More defined jawline and proportionate chin
  • Volume restoration in the midface

Restylane Contour Questions & Answers

Q: What side effects are associated with Juvederm Voluma?

A: FDA-approved Voluma has a strong track record of safety while also providing volume and lift. Typical side effects are usually mild and temporary, and may include:

  • Mild itching
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness or irritation around the injection sites(s)

These side effects should resolve within 1-2 days after your procedure. To minimize potential side effects, we recommend abstaining from alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen for three days following the procedure and longer should you experience persistent side effects or take blood thinners. An ice pack can also help in reducing any swelling or bruising.

Q: When will I see my results?

A: Typically, you can see noticeable results immediately after a Juvederm Voluma filler treatment (though results can vary).

Q: How long will my results last?

A: HA facial fillers typically last for 6-12 months, although your results could vary. Some patients see Juvederm Voluma results that last for over 2 years.

The longevity of your results will depend on several factors, including sun exposure, lifestyle, how quickly your body metabolizes the filler, and the health and elasticity of the skin.

To maintain your results, we recommend having touch-up treatments. Our dermatologists will help develop a treatment plan for you.

Q: Does a Juvederm Voluma treatment hurt?

A: Filler treatments are generally well-tolerated procedures and typically take just a few minutes to complete, depending on how many areas are treated. Because Juvederm Voluma contains the numbing agent lidocaine, most patients report feeling nothing more than small pinpricks.

Some patients will also describe the sensation as similar to a pinch or bee sting, while others reported no pain at all. And during and after the injections, most patients experience little to no discomfort.

We also offer a variety of options, such as topical numbing cream for patients who are especially worried about pain during treatment.

Q: Is there any recovery time after a Juvederm Voluma treatment?

A: After treatment, you are free to return to most of your normal activities. You will also be allowed to use make-up and skincare products on the same day of your treatment.

You can expect some swelling or redness at the injection sites, which are temporary side effects that resolve themselves within hours after treatment.
