Fraxel Laser Resurfacing

The Fraxel laser is a dual wavelength device that uses light-based laser energy to target a wide variety of skin conditions including acne scars, surgical scars, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and more. The duel wavelengths offers patients the ability to target surface layer conditions and target below the epidermis layer to stimulate collagen & elastin resulting in a fresh, rejuvenated appearance.
  • Downtime: Minimal – 3 to 7 days depending on wavelength
  • Pain Level: Minimal
  • Results Duration: Long lasting

Treats:

Acne scaring, hyperpigmentation, freckles, sunspots, and brown spots

Side Effects:

For the 1927nm wavelength you can expect significant shedding of the skin for about 1 week. For the 1550nm wavelength you can expect mild dryness and swelling immediately after the procedure which improves quickly.

Location:

Face and neck

Follow Up:

Some patients require a second treatment session to achieve an optimal outcome.

How Performed:

The hand piece delivers laser energy into different depths of the skin depending on which wavelength is used.

Preparation:

Topical anesthetic applied prior to treatment

Procedure Type:

Laser

Expected Outcome:

Improvement in skin tone, texture, pigmentation, and fine lines/wrinkles.

Onset:

Results are visible within 1-2 weeks after treatment for the 1927nm wavelength. Final results can take up to 3 months for the 1550nm wavelength because it’s stimulating collagen deeper in the skin.

What is the Fraxel Laser?

Fraxel is a fractionated resurfacing laser. It’s a tried true device with two distinct wavelength – 1550nm and 1927nm. These wavelengths are used to treat different skin conditions. The 1927nm wavelength is ideal for treating pigment whereas the 1550nm wavelength is ideal for treating tone and texture. The procedure is relatively quick and painless. Patients arrive about an hour before the procedure to sit with a topical numbing cream and the treatment itself lasts for about an hour.

THE PROCEDURE

The procedure itself is the same regardless of which wavelength your provider recommends. However, the recovery, side effects, and results will vary depending on which skin conditions are being treated. If your provider recommends the 1927nm, which targets more of the superficial layers of the skin, you can expect to feel like you’ve had a mild sunburn immediately after your procedure which diminishes relatively quickly. Your skin will then start to appear a little dark in color as it begins to peel off around days 3 through 5. After about a week’s time the peeling will be complete and your skin will appear bright and glowly. If your provider recommends the 1550nm, which bypasses the top epidermis layer of the skin, you can expect to have a little redness and feel a little swollen immediately after your treatment. The difference with this wavelength is that the laser energy is going deeper into the skin to stimulate your collagen and elastin production. Therefore, there’s no peeling on the surface layer and results unfold overtime between 1 – 3 months. This wavelength is great for treating deep acne scars, surgical scars, and improving skin’s overall tone & texture.

WhO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?

While the Fraxel Laser device is safe for all skin types and tones, the ideal patient varies for each wavelength depending on the type of skin condition you’re seeking to treat. The 1550nm wavelength is ideal for patients who are looking to treat pigmentation related conditions such as sun spots, brown spots, and fine lines & wrinkles. This is a great procedure for patients during the Fall and Winter seasons as you’ll want to avoid the sun during the first few days post treatment.

The 1927nm wavelength is ideal for patients who are looking to address overall skin tone & texture. This wavelength bypasses the top epidermis so it doesn’t address pigmentation problems. It’s ideal during the Spring & Summer seasons and helps to smooth the skin’s tone & texture, get rid of any acne or surgical scars, and stimulate collagen & elastin.

Botox

Frowning, squinting, and smiling leave behind fine lines and wrinkles over time. Neuromodulators can be injected directly with a tiny needle into the muscles responsible and work by reducing crease-causing contractions.

Dermal Fillers

As we mature, loss of volume leads to wrinkles, prominent nasolabial folds, thinned lips, exaggerated jowls, and marionette lines. The natural deterioration of underlying bone and soft tissue leaves a hollowed, aged appearance. Fillers injected below the skin surface can correct age-related volume loss.
